Abstract

Jorge Isaacs and Rafael Celedón published descriptions of the Ika language in 1884 and 1892 repectively. On the basis of the identification of the current mecaning and pronunciation of some 500 words or phrases included in them, the two works are evaluated and evidence examined for sound changes that would have taken place since Isaacs and Celedón recorded their data.
