Abstract

The following pages compile a set of nine pláticas, or stories, of boto indians, told to Adolfo Constenla Umaña by guatuso informants. They were a last compilation he was unable to publish. Attending to his wishes, I therefore publish these pláticas here, and, as was his desire, I add a historical context, plus ehtnohistorical interpretations that will help to know and understand both, botos and guatusos. This has been an interdisciplinary task, where, in the end, it is possible to see how Linguistics, History and Anthropology are able to concourse, thus offering new panoramas on ancient life.
