Abstract

In this article, we analyze the design and use –by members of the Costa Rican indigenous groups and by external researchers– of the current practical orthographies of the autochthonous languages of this country. Then, taking into account the users’ interests and motivations, their reading and writing practices, and social conditions of the communities of speakers, we propose several reflections on the writing of minority and in-process-of-displacement languages.
