Keywords:
indigenous languages of Costa Rica, Bribri, field experience, linguistic research methodologyAbstract
From the halls and classrooms of the University of Costa Rica to the beautiful landscapes of Talamanca, the author of this paper narrates stories lived during her academic career. The fascination she felt for the study of languages and her relationship with eminent linguists, as Adolfo Constenla and Enrique Margery, led her to work on Costa Rican Chibchan languages, especially with the Bribri. Because of this, determined to know further about these languages and their speakers, she travels to the Bribri, Maleku, Guaymí and Boruca territories. The author relates experiences both about collecting samples as her adventures among the wonderful people of these ethnicities. Finally, it exposes the hard work that she made in her studies on the oral bribri tradition and concludes with a little reflection on these experiences.
