Abstract
Is the Costa Rican middle class disappearing at the end of the Century? Contrary to well spreaded prenotions this study demonstrates the size increase of this group as well as the important changes it is undergoing. The study analyses the growth of the middle class, the internal modifications, the changing link to the State, the increasing presence in rural areas and the economic activities in which it participates. It also makes considerations about the future development of this social group.
